A new year begins with private fireworks.
SONEKA New Year’s Retreat
Close one year and begin the next, in the silence of Hokkaido.
Sink into free-flowing moor hot-spring water drawn straight from the source, gazing out at a dreamlike forest wrapped in snow.
In a dining room where wood flames sway gently, savour the seasonal flavours found only in a Hokkaido winter; and at night, private fireworks rise above the hushed forest to celebrate the arrival of a new year.
Hours pass unnoticed before the silver-white landscape beyond the window.
Far from the noise of everyday life, we have prepared a special retreat — offered only over the New Year period — to close one year and greet the next, calmly, with the people who matter most.
Every villa has its own free-flowing moor hot spring and wood fire,
with a snow-dressed forest spreading beyond the windows.
Each of the four offers a different view and a different space,
so you may choose the one that suits the stay you have in mind.
A stay that presents the seasonal ingredients found only in a Hokkaido winter through two distinct gastronomies. In a dining room where the scent of wood fire draws out the depth of each ingredient, you look out over a dreamlike, snow-dressed forest while the chef finishes each plate in front of you.
On the other evening, an irori kaiseki — the Hokkaido season savoured around the sunken hearth. Flickering charcoal and unhurried time bring out still more of each dish.
The scenery, the aroma of wood and charcoal, the warmth of the flame, and the rich land of Hokkaido itself — together they shape a gastronomic experience possible only in this season.
Spend the close of the year unhurried with those dearest to you, and meet the next one with a calm heart. For such a New Year, SONEKA has prepared a welcome all its own.
As the year turns, private fireworks — for staying guests only —
rise into the quiet winter sky.
On the morning of New Year’s Day, champagne to toast the year ahead and
a special osechi built around Hokkaido’s seasonal ingredients await.
Gather at the table before a snow-wrapped forest and speak of the year to come.
A New Year a little different from the usual — and one that stays with you.
